TANDBERG is at the forefront of the video industry, consistently the first to deliver
fresh functionality and realize new applications for multimedia collaboration. Our
approach to research and development is designed to help customers be more
productive. Through innovation, integration, and a commitment to our customers,
TANDBERG has set the pace for this dynamic industry.
The list below represents a sampling of the “firsts” that have made us a pioneer.
TANDBERG was first to develop an end-to-end High Definition solution, with
camera, infrastructure, and a range of HD systems for meeting rooms and
the executive desktop.
TANDBERG was first to develop a video gateway that, combined with
TANDBERG’s ExpresswayTM technology for traversing network firewalls, allows
3G mobile phone users to reach any video system from anywhere.
TANDBERG was first to deliver a streaming and archiving server for the video
industry that supports:
• Live dual stream content created in any application
• Fully synchronized streams
• Support for all major formats - Windows Media®, RealPlayer®, and QuickTime®
TANDBERG was first to extend a full video solution to collaboration tools such
as Microsoft® Live Communications Server and Office Communicator, and IBM®
Lotus® Sametime®. These integrations make it possible for users to move
seamlessly from one tool to another by:
• Allowing Office Communicator to interoperate as a software video codec
directly with TANDBERG endpoints.
• Integrating video endpoints as well as the TANDBERG Management System
(TMS) with Office Communicator.
• Implementing Microsoft’s authorization mechanism for SIP based endpoints
into their own endpoints.
• Allowing IBM Sametime users to launch ad-hoc calls.
• Providing IBM Sametime users control of any endpoint managed by TMS.
TANDBERG was first to enhance security requirements to utilize AES and DES
encryption, H.235 authentication for endpoints and infrastructure, and the
802.1x standard for IP networks. Users can protect the privacy of a video call
as well as their valuable network resources.
TANDBERG was first to deploy a solution for IPv6, the next generation Internet
Protocol, making more addresses available and providing greater 3G capability.
TANDBERG was first to integrate fully with Cisco VoiceOver IP (VoIP) solutions,
providing business-quality video that offers the same functionality and ease of
use as a Cisco IP telephone. For the first time, TANDBERG’s integration offered
long-awaited features such as hold, transfer and directory services, to users of
visual communication tools.
TANDBERG was first to introduce and implement a firewall traversal technology
that creates a secure path through any firewall. Now the basis for industry-wide
ITU standards, ExpresswayTM allows video users to communicate with suppliers,
customers, and home workers over multiple protocols with full feature sets
and functionality.
TANDBERG was first to design a flexible, scalable solution for multipoint calls
that allows each participant to connect using IP, ISDN, or SIP simultaneously
and utilize the highest bandwidth and protocol set available.
TANDBERG was first to implement true CD-quality Digital Audio to maximize the
multimedia video experience and create higher-impact communication by:
• Raising the bar for high performance to 20kHz stereo audio, essential for
sharing multimedia presentations with higher clarity and stereo sound.
• Using standard XLR, S/PDIF and RCA connections to ensure easy integration
with external peripherals.
TANDBERG was first to support the H.263 video algorithm, and later first to
support the H.264 video algorithm. Today these algorithms are standard across
the entire spectrum of video endpoints and video infrastructure for both IP and
ISDN calls, making it possible for users to experience exceptional video quality
with lower bandwidth requirements and total cost of ownership.
TANDBERG was first to enable everyone in a video meeting to view a PC
presentation, the presenter, and all meeting participants at the same time.
With DuoVideo and a direct PC input, presentation sharing became available
to everyone and meetings became more interactive and more productive.
TANDBERG was first to introduce a management application (TMS) to manage,
schedule and monitor a complete video solution including MCUs, Gateways,
Gatekeepers, and endpoints. It allows users to manage TANDBERG equipment
as well as equipment from third-party vendors.
